Genre: urban fantasy
Length: 406 pages
Setting: London, England, present day
Summary: Felix Castor is an exorcist, although he’s taking a hiatus after the last one went bad. Even so, he takes a new case to exorcise a ghost from the Bonnington Archive. While it looks like an easy case, he discovers there’s a deeper mystery behind the source of the ghost. She was smuggled into the country as part of a sex ring and killed in a fit of anger by one of the archivists.
Final thoughts: Good book. I’m very glad I don’t live in a world full of ghosts and wereanimals. Carey had a unique take on wereanimals (ghosts in an animal’s body) and exorcism. I really liked the last scene where the succubus who was summoned to kill Felix came back to be his apprentice.
Title comes from: A line by Felix in the book.
Reading challenges fulfilled: none, since this was a review from a previous year
