Agatha H and the Airship City by Phil and Kaja Folio

Published: 2011

Genre: YA steampunk

Length: 264 pages

Setting: a steampunk Europe

Interest: I had put it on my Kindle when it was a free Kindle book. I recognized the authors as the creators of the Girl Genius webcomic and thought the book would be worth checking out.

Summary: Agatha goes to University, at least until Baron Klaus Wulfenbach takes control and kills her mentor. Suddenly, she finds herself a hostage on board the giant dirigible Castle Wulfenback. There, she discovers she’s a Spark (with mad genius building abilities). She fights off a Slaver Wasp invasion with the Baron’s son and manages to escape to find answers at Castle Heterodyne.

Final thoughts: A fun little romp that ends on a cliff-hanger and leaves me wanting more. Apparently, it’s based completely off the webcomic, so I could catch up on all the action there. I thought it might be enjoyable for Miss Adventure to listen to, but she found the Slaver Wasps and their attacks good fodder for nightmares and asked me to stop reading it.

Reading challenges fulfilled: none since this was a book review of a book I read in a previous year
