Weekly Wrap-Up: Niagara Falls

We’re heading off to the Outer Banks tomorrow (hurray! vacation!), but I snuck in a full week of school before we left. We spent the week reading about Niagara Falls. It was the whole reason we did the unit study on electricity. I was really just looking for an excuse to visit Niagara Falls. We pulled a couple of books from the library on Niagara Falls – nothing too exciting, just what I could find. I did find a cool book that told a Native American myth about the Falls called Maiden of the Mist: A Legend of Niagara Falls as told by Veronika Martenova Charles.

The other cool book we used this week was The Book of Codes: Understanding the World of Hidden Messages: An Illustrated Guide to Signs, Symbols, Ciphers, and Secret Languages edited by Paul Lunde. The book has all different kinds of codes in it, from ancient codes, to bush codes, to codes used in war. Mr. Curiosity had great fun looking through the book at all the different kinds of codes that are out there. We even tried out one of them today.

Don’t expect too many posts next week since we’ll be enjoying ourselves at the ocean. Let’s hope the weather will cooperate for us.
