Weekly Wrap-Up: Etymology

This truly was a wrap-up week as we finished our grammar unit study. We had a couple of busy weeks and needed just one more week to finish things up. One of the things we finished up was Camp Fossil Eyes: Digging for the Origins of Words by Mark Abley. This was a fun book set up as a series of emails from kids and their counselors at summer camp to their parents. The kids find fossils around the camp that are words and their history. There are also interstitial chapters that provide the etymology of different words. It was a surprisingly fun book that the kids enjoyed.

Other than that, the kids each wrote a Mad Lib, and we started a new genre of Performance of the Week – movie soundtracks. We listened to a bunch of John Williams music this morning while doing our other work. Next week is a new topic with new books to review.

If you’re interested in purchasing the book, you can click on the cover image or title to follow an Amazon affiliate link to the book and thanks for supporting my blog!
