I’ve got two books to add to my reading list, so it’s time for a “What I Will Be Reading” post.
The first book comes from a Big Idea post on Whatever. The Big Idea posts are always intriguing because the author actually discusses how he or she came to write the book. I find the story behind the story to be fascinating, but I resist putting all but the most tempting on my to read list. I decided Hild: A Novel by Nicola Griffith, was one of those very tempting books. It’s a historical fiction book about a woman who lived during the Middle Ages and did some very impressive things at a time when women weren’t expected or encouraged to work outside the home. I’m a sucker for books about strong women overcoming obstacles, so I put it on my list.
I also added Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond. The book came up during a preliminary graduate exam that StatsGuy was participating in. Two of the other professors had read the book and found it fascinating. Good enough for me! The interesting thing is it was just mentioned on a blog post by The Eclectic Parent this morning. Guess it’s a sign!
Anyone read the books? What did you think?
